Newport Beach's Boat Parade Runs on a Timetable, and Where You Watch Decides Your Evening

November 5, 2026

The Christmas Boat Parade takes about two and a half hours to loop Newport Harbor, so it reaches the Balboa Fun Zone near 7:15 p.m. and Lido Marina Village near 8:46.

The 118th Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade runs Wednesday, December 16 through Sunday, December 20, 2026. The Commodores Club of the Newport Beach Chamber of Commerce is hosting again. Each night the boats leave the tip of Lido Isle around 6:30 p.m. and finish there around 9:00 p.m. The 6:30 start only matters at the starting line. On the official 2026 route map, every stop on the loop has an estimated pass-by time, and the earliest and latest stops are about two hours apart. Pick your viewing spot first, and dinner, parking and the drone shows follow from that choice.

A two-and-a-half-hour loop, stretch by stretch

The map lists 57 marks between the start and the finish. Grouped by stretch of harbor, the times look like this:

Stretch of harbor Named stops on the 2026 map Estimated pass-by
Lido Isle and the Rhine Channel Lido Isle Yacht Club, Lido Isle Bridge, Woody's Wharf 6:35 to 6:51 p.m.
West Newport bayfront Marina Park, Lighthouse Café, 15th Street Beach, 10th Street Beach 6:54 to 7:02 p.m.
Balboa Village Newport Landing Restaurant, Balboa Fun Zone, Harborside Restaurant and Balboa Pavilion, Davey's Locker 7:14 to 7:16 p.m.
Harbor entrance Peninsula Point Beach, Pirate's Cove, Channel Reef and China Cove 7:25 to 7:33 p.m.
Balboa Island and Collins Island Little Island Beach, Balboa Island Ferry Landing, North Bayfront 7:48 to 8:11 p.m.
Upper harbor and PCH Harbor Island, Tavern House Kitchen + Bar and PCH Bridge, SOL Mexican Cocina, Balboa Bay Resort 8:18 to 8:35 p.m.
Mariner's Mile Rusty Pelican, Billy's at the Beach, Louie's by the Bay, The Winery Restaurant & Wine Bar 8:43 to 8:45 p.m.
Lido Marina Village and the finish Lido Marina Village, Malibu Farm, Lido Bottle Works, HanaHaus, Lido Park, Via Lido North Genoa Beach 8:46 to 9:00 p.m.

The organizer calls these times estimates and suggests arriving early for the best viewing and parking. Treat each one as a window. Even with that leeway, the table divides the harbor into two very different evenings.

The early side lets you watch first and eat afterward

On the Peninsula, the boats come through while it's still early evening. Marina Park at 1600 W. Balboa Blvd. is the first public viewing stop after the start. The organizer calls it the largest public viewing area on the route, with 177 parking spaces, a playground and a picnic area on 10.5 acres. The map puts the boats there around 6:54 p.m., and the organizer's Marina Park page gives 6:45, so plan on the boats arriving sometime from a quarter to seven onward. They reach the Balboa Fun Zone and Balboa Pavilion around 7:15, Peninsula Point Beach at 7:25 and Pirate's Cove at 7:32.

If you watch from the sand at 15th Street Beach or 10th Street Beach, the boats have passed by 7:05. That still leaves time for a regular dinner reservation afterward. Families watching from the Marina Park lawn can be home before a school-night bedtime. The waterfront restaurants on this side work the same way. Woody's Wharf at 6:51, Lighthouse Café at 6:55 and Harborside at 7:15 all see the boats early in the dinner hour.

The late side builds dinner around the boats

Mariner's Mile and Lido Marina Village sit at the far end of the loop, and the timing changes completely. Boats reach Tavern House Kitchen + Bar and the PCH Bridge around 8:26 p.m. They pass Rusty Pelican at 8:43, Billy's at the Beach and Louie's by the Bay at 8:44, The Winery at 8:45, Lido Marina Village at 8:46 and Malibu Farm at 8:47.

With the parade arriving that late, a full dinner fits before the boats show up. Billy's at the Beach plans its parade nights around this timing. For December 16 through 20 it offers a three-course prix fixe at $100 per person, plus tax and gratuity. It also suggests booking a seating no later than 8:20 p.m. so the table is settled before the boats arrive around 8:44. On this side of the harbor, the parade comes as dessert is served.

The Balboa Island bayfront falls in the middle of the loop. The boats reach Little Island Beach at 7:48, the Balboa Island Ferry Landing at 8:01 and the North Bayfront at 8:07. From the Island, you can eat early or late and still catch the parade.

The drone shows are timed to the same clock

The organizer has scheduled drone shows every parade night at two sites, one at each end of the harbor: over the Balboa Bay Resort and from Peninsula Park near the Fun Zone. Each site runs two shows a night, and their times match the parade's timing at that end of the harbor.

Night Balboa Bay Club Peninsula Park
Wednesday, Dec. 16 6:00 and 8:15 p.m. 6:45 and 8:00 p.m.
Thursday, Dec. 17 through Sunday, Dec. 20 6:15 and 8:15 p.m. 6:45 and 8:00 p.m.

On the late side, the 8:15 show over the Balboa Bay Resort comes about 20 minutes before the boats reach the resort at 8:35. That makes it a natural cue to head outside for anyone dining on Mariner's Mile. On the early side, the 6:45 show at Peninsula Park comes about half an hour before the boats reach the Fun Zone at 7:15. The 8:00 show there starts after the parade has moved toward Balboa Island, so a Peninsula evening that begins with the boats can end with the drones. On both sides, the shows are scheduled around when the boats pass.

Opening night starts on the ocean side

Wednesday, December 16 has an extra event before the parade. A fireworks display is planned off Newport Pier around 6:15 p.m., about 15 minutes before the boats leave Lido Isle, if conditions allow it to proceed safely. Newport Pier faces the ocean, and the route map marks the display at the pier.

Marina Park opens even earlier that night. Its fourth annual holiday market runs from 4 to 8 p.m. in partnership with Vogels Vibes. Admission is free, and it brings together more than 35 local makers and food vendors with live music, photo ops and children's activities. Starting at Marina Park, you can shop the market in daylight, watch the fireworks over the Peninsula at 6:15 and see the boats pass before 7:00, all within a few blocks.

Getting to your spot on time

The organizer says all city parking lots will be open throughout the parade and recommends allowing extra travel time. The City of Newport Beach parking page gives the numbers that matter most for the early side. The Balboa Pier Lot has 614 spaces, is open around the clock and charges $3.10 an hour or $30.85 a day from October through April. The East Ocean Front lot at 105 Palm Street is partially closed until September 2027, which leaves 93 spaces. Near Newport Pier, the West Ocean Front lot at 2100 W. Oceanfront has 211. At Marina Park, you pay through ParkMobile or at the on-site pay stations.

The Balboa Island Ferry runs from 6:30 a.m. to midnight every day of the year and keeps running during the parade. Parade Control opens breaks in the procession for the ferry to cross. The fare is cash only and is collected by the deckhand during the crossing. That makes it possible to watch from the Fun Zone around 7:15, cross the channel and catch the boats again on the Island bayfront.

You can also watch from the water. Davey's Locker runs three parade cruises each night from December 16 through 20: 5:30 to 6:50 p.m., 7:05 to 8:15 p.m. and 8:30 to 9:50 p.m. Adult fares range from $47 to $62 and junior fares from $43 to $57, depending on the night.

The harbor's holiday calendar before December 16

The parade is the main event, but the harbor's holiday season starts weeks earlier:

  1. Friday, November 20: Fashion Island's tree lighting runs from 5 to 8 p.m. in the Neiman Marcus–Bloomingdale's Courtyard, with a 90-foot live tree, snowfall, music and Santa.
  2. Friday, November 27: Newport Dunes lights its 36th annual Lighting of the Bay, more than 50 floating light displays, with Santa switching them on around 6 p.m. Entry is free, and parking is a flat $15 that night. The Fire & Lights Festival runs Thursday through Sunday evenings through January 3, 2027.
  3. Sunday, November 29: The Ring of Lights bayfront home displays begin. They stay up through December 31 and can be seen from shore or from the water.
  4. Saturday, December 5: Santa arrives at Lido Marina Village from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., with music by the Holly Belles, hot chocolate and cookie decorating. He returns to stroll the village on scheduled days through December 21.
  5. Friday, December 11: Entries close for this year's Ring of Lights competition. The fee is $35, and judging is on Monday, December 14.

Any bayfront home with lights up by mid-December will be lit when all five parade nights go by.
